Description

The plaintiff, Minnie Thuot, and Leo Thuot, her husband, rented the home of Emil F. Gudde, and entered into possession thereof on October 15, 1948, Gudde retaining the use of one bedroom. Gudde was a man about seventy years of age, and suffered from heart trouble and was twice hospitalized therefor after the Thuots became his tenants. He returned from the hospital for the last time on February 22, 1949, and stayed in his home with the Thuots from then until his death on January 24, 1950. The only asset inventoried in his estate was his homestead which was appraised at $8,500. The Thuots, at the special request of the deceased, began to furnish certain services for the deceased which are stated in the findings of fact entered by the trial court to have been as follows: preparation of meals, serving meals in bed, laundering clothing and soiled bed lines, bathing said deceased, administering medications, shaving said deceased, reading to him, and various other sundry types of services as generally performed by a practical nurse. These services continued until Guddes death on January 24, 1950. During a large part of this period Gudde was confined to his bed and was under the care of a physician who called upon him approximately thirty times between May, 1949, and January, 1950.
